You Received a Code Enforcement Letter, Now What?

1. Read the Notice
Carefully review the letter to understand the specific violation, the code section that was violated, the deadline for compliance, and the steps required to resolve the issue.

2. Contact the Enforcement Officer
If you have questions or need additional time, reach out to the assigned inspector or their office. Being proactive and communicative can help you obtain extensions or work toward a resolution.

 3. Take Action
Begin addressing the violation as soon as possible. This may include making repairs, obtaining permits, or cleaning up the property. Be sure to document all progress with photos and written records.

4. Avoid Confrontation
Maintain a cooperative attitude when working with the inspector. Being respectful and non-confrontational will make it easier to resolve the issue efficiently.

5. Keep Records
Take photos and keep detailed records of all communication and any work done to correct the violation. This documentation can be important if questions arise later.
